Need inspiration for a Halloween treat? You can make these creepy muffins together with the kids. Let them decorate the muffins themselves!



  • 400 g butternut squash
  • 350 g flour
  • 100 g quark
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 dl buttermilk
  • 120 ml sunflower oil
  • 100 g walnuts
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. five spice seasoning
  • 150 g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar


  • Balls or pieces of cooked pumpkin
  • 150 g white chocolate
  • 80 g dark chocolate

Let's get to work

  1. Place the butternut squash with skin in the microwave on the highest setting for about 20 minutes. Leave to cool down.
  2. Cut the butternut squash in half lengthwise and remove the seeds with a spoon.
  3. Remove the skin.
  4. Mash 400 g of the squash to be used in the muffin dough. Keep the rest of the squash to cut into pieces or make into balls for decoration.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180° C
  6. Mix the dry ingredients together.
  7. Then add the oil, quark and the eggs in this order. Mix well.
  8. Mix the mashed butternut squash into the dough.
  9. Place paper baking molds in a muffin tin and fill them with the dough.
  10. Bake the muffins in about 20 to 25 minutes.
  11. Let the muffins cool down.
  12. Melt the white and dark chocolate au bain-marie.
  13. Dip the muffins in the white chocolate and let it harden for 70%.
  14. Put the chocolate in a small piping bag and make spirally circles on the white chocolate.
  15. Create a web by using a skewer to draw lines from the inside out over the chocolate.
  16. Garnish the muffins with a small ball or piece of pumpkin and place a walnut on top.
