# Our Care for People and Nature

Enjoy yourself whilst feeling good

At EAT ME, we want everyone to be able to enjoy tasty exotic fruit and vegetables. We work with growers around the world and build long-term relationships with many of our partners. Through our sustainability strategy called “Our Care for People and Nature”, we focus on working conditions, water, biodiversity and climate throughout our value chain.

## Fair working conditions

The people who grow, harvest, and package our fruit and vegetables deserve to work under fair and safe conditions, and live decently. We request our growers to conduct third-party social audits. They help identify possible challenges and opportunities for improvements in their workplace. We see these audits as a first step in creating awareness, recognising challenges in working conditions and supporting continuous improvement.

In 2024, we also started working with selected growers and partners on water, sanitation and hygiene, often referred to as WASH. This forms part of our broader efforts on working conditions in our value chain.

## Responsible water management

We all need water, but it is a resource under pressure in many parts of the world. We work with growers to better understand water-related risks, manage water responsibly, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

In areas where water availability and use present shared challenges, we may also work with growers, communities, NGOs, public authorities and other organisations. By working together, we aim to contribute to local solutions that balance the needs of people, nature and agriculture.

## Biodiversity

Healthy ecosystems are essential for growing fruit and vegetables and biodiversity plays an important role in keeping these ecosystems healthy and resilient. That is why biodiversity is part of our sustainability strategy “Our Care for People and Nature”.

We have assessed biodiversity-related risks in our value chain to determine where further attention is needed. We are using these insights to shape our approach and to explore how we can work with growers and sector partners on biodiversity.

## Climate

Growing fruit and vegetables depends on the right climate and growing conditions. As the climate changes, these conditions are changing too, bringing challenges such as drought and more extreme weather in some of the regions we source form.

We have had climate targets that have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) since 2020. In 2023 we were the first in our sector to include a target for emissions from agriculture, forestry and land use (FLAG emissions). Our targets guide our work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations and throughout our value chain. Whenever it is possible we transport our products by sea instead of flying them. We also work with growers to explore opportunities to reduce emissions at field level. In addition, we work on reducing the environmental impact of our packaging and on using materials more efficiently.

We also aim to keep organic residual streams in use where possible, for example as human food, animal feed or for biogas production – depending on the type and quality of the product.

We report annually on our carbon footprint, sustainability targets and progress in the [Annual Sustainability Report of Nature’s Pride](https://www.naturespride.eu/en/care-for-people-and-nature/sustainability-reports "Annual Sustainability Report of Nature’s Pride").
